Samuel's work is concerned with critiquing areas of 'value', whether this is value-form, exchange-value or use-value. Through the work Samuel is questioning areas of financial values, cultural values and emotional values through  methodologies of  repetition, reproduction, construction of spontaneity and humour.

Alongside this is an interrogation of the photographic. Financial values, cultural values, emotional values are also tied in with the mobility of the photographic image. Samuel co-opts the idea of facsimile or document using the visual system of circulation by which artworks are assigned value.

It is a re-positioning of the artist as jester, poking fun. This causes questions to arise in regards to an artistic practice, particularly when concerning authenticity and skill
